Cagliari’s official announcement:
Welcome back, sir!
Cagliari Football Club is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Claudio Ranieri that he will take over the first team manager from January 1, 2023, and the coach has signed a contract that lasts until June 30, 2025.
Ranieri, born in 1951, became head coach of Cagliari in 1988 after playing for Vigo Ramazia and Campaniaputeolana. This is the beginning of an extraordinary adventure that will go down in history. In Cagliari, he started a cycle: in addition to winning the Italian Cup, he was a double promotion from C to A, and then a fairy-tale savior in the top league. Sardinia fans will always remember a glorious journey.
Leaving the island in 1991, he gained a foothold on the bench in Naples and Fiorentina. From 1993 to 1997, under his leadership, the Viola won the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup, but lost to Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Cup winners’ Cup. On June 26, 1999, he won the King’s Cup with Valencia, his first trophy abroad.
After Atletico Madrid, he arrived in England in September 2000 to coach Chelsea and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2004. In the same year, he coached Valencia again and he will win the European Super Cup.
He returned to Italy in 2007, first in Parma, where he made a sensational redemption in Serie A, then the restart of Juventus and Roma, where he approached the Premiership title in 2010 and scored a total of 80 points in the table.
On his way, there will be Internazionale, Monaco and Greece, and then he will get the final dedication among the sports giants: this feat once again comes from an island, this time an Englishman. On July 13, 2015, he signed an agreement with Leicester City to start with the stated goal of staying in the top league. Ranieri created the myth when the foxes were crowned England champion on April 10, 2016.
Nantes, Fulham, Rome, Sampdoria and finally Watford. Now go back to the beginning of everything and write a new chapter of history together.
Welcome back, sir. It’s great to hug you again!
