The Post: Villa wants Martinez to start against Liverpool, but Emery will assess his mindset

According to the Daily Mail on December 17, Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will hold talks in Emery after the World Cup final because Aston Villa plan to bring him back to the Premier League.
Martinez will play Argentina in the World Cup final against France on Sunday, while Aston Villa will face Liverpool on Boxing Day eight days later. Villa want Martinez to be in the starting line-up for that game, but Emery will assess Martinez’s mindset after the World Cup final-a day that Martinez will remember for the rest of his life, for better or worse.
The goalkeeper was a key factor for Argentina to reach the final. Martinez saved two penalties in a penalty shootout during Argentina’s match against the Netherlands in the 1/4 World Cup final. Martinez is also one of the most important players at Aston Villa and he has an important say in the dressing room. If the current captain of Aston Villa, John McKing, does not have a regular chance to play in the first team, it would not be surprising for Martinez to become captain.
